We have been completely delighted with the children's programming offered by the Chai Center. Last September Rabbi Dovid conducted a shofar making workshop with our third and fourth grade students. Students and teachers alike were mesmerized by the Rabbi's interactive presentation, which included props, vibrant photographs, authentic rams' horns, and other features designed to tantalize the students' imaginations. Each child went home with a shofar that he/she had sanded and varnished.

In December Rabbi Dovid conducted an olive press workshop with our fourth and fifth graders. Students had an opportunity to grind the olives and to see firsthand how authentic olive oil is produced. All the while they were treated to fun facts and anecdotes which really set the mood. The visit even included a visit from Judah Maccabee!

The fun continued in March with a model matzah workshop during which our students cut, threshed and ground wheat into flour. Joyously, they prepared their very own matzahs to take home. What we love most about the Chai Center is how authentic their children's programs are. You really feel as if you are being transported back in time to the days of the Bible. Their programs represent a living Judaism and best of all, they make our students smile!

The Model Matzah Bakery is a fun and engaging way for kids (and adults) to learn how matzah is made. Rabbi Dovid is a terrific, energetic leader. His approach to demonstrating and inviting participation (and his many costume changes!) is entertaining for kids and adults alike.

I recently participated in Rabbi Dovid’s matzah baking workshop and it was wonderful. Not only did my six year old enjoy the experience, but all of the parents had a terrific time, as well. Rabbi Dovid has a wonderful way with children and truly puts his heart into giving the kids a great experience. I can’t wait to see what he comes up with next!
